Children with articulation delays have plenty to say, but no one can seem to understand what it is they are saying! These children are frequently unintelligible (very difficult to understand) and may present with a predictable pattern of error (for example, little Johnny always leaves the last sound off of each word he speaks. So, when he means “cat”, he says “ca”).
Delays in speech development that persist into school age may impact academic performance, specifically reading, writing, and spelling. Consequently, Early Intervention is crucial.
